Initially struggling to come up with an idea/concept for a large 'passion' project, I had to strip down the necessities; considering my own specialisation, skillset and preferences, combining that with something that I had a huge love for, enticing me to push work as far as I could. With nothing immediately jumping to mind, I conversed with peers and recent graduates of Viscom and graphic design such as Tom Ip, Matt Nutschel and Amin Fouari. These conversations helped me grasp a better concept on what I should be aiming for with my final project, setting a pathway for myself into industry and beyond. This was what led me to the idea of celebrating my three years at Leeds Arts University, combining all I had learnt to produce one big final outcome. Looking back on previous projects, I was highly disappointed with my mark from 501 as I believed I worked incredibly hard on the group aspects of the project; setting up social media accounts, creating the logo, branding and publicising our event. This ultimately led to me having less time for my 'own' work, meaning less developed designs for my t-shirts. This inspired me to host an event by myself where I wouldn't have to pick up other people's downfalls and sabotage my own work and grade in the process. Hosting an event that meets my vision and expectations and something that I would be proud to call my own that may hopefully lead on to more opportunities in the future.

"For my final project of my degree course, I want to incorporate everything I have learnt and accomplished during my three years. Celebrating my work and everyone that has helped along the way; the concept is to host an event - presented by Gemini Branding: live DJs, motion graphics, merchandise for sale, drinks and a good time. The build up to the event will then include self-promo, promotion for all DJs/groups and any other collaborations in order to boost awareness and overall audience. The entire process will be documented by blog and the event will be filmed, to be edited and presented at the end of year show."

Brief

Host an event showcasing the range of skills and creative vision collated through your 3 years of Visual Communication; focusing on 3D motion design, advertising and branding; including a new collection for your brand Gemini Branding.

Final outcome: to create a video edit of the event, showcasing the popularity, the DJs, the motion graphics and the new clothing. This can then be displayed at the End of Year Show as a highlight reel, alongside t-shirts for sale.

Theme

Wanting the revolve the theme around something close to my childhood to keep me inspired and wanting to work, I chose to develop it around a cartoon/TV show 'Avatar: The Last Airbender'. This show was one of my favourite's growing up and I love rewatching it as it brings nostalgia and reminds me of growing up with my brother. The show consists of the male protagonist, Aang, reawakening after 100 years, having to master each of the four elements: air, water, earth and fire to end the war and fulfil his destiny as 'The Avatar'. I aim to implement this theme by offering the DJ collectives an element to claim as their own, which I will portray through the animations I present at the event - mirroring the journey of the air nomad throughout the animated series. In essence, the DJs will have their own custom motion graphics displaying behind them as they perform, displaying their name and other graphics in relation to which ever element they decide to represent. This will follow the order of the show 'Avatar', as the protagonist has to master the elements; first water; second earth; and finally fire. This will also mirror the music on showcase, as the music will gain in intensity as the night develops, following the pattern of each element getting harder to master in the animated series.

These are the symbols from the animated series that represent each element; air, earth, fire, water from left to right.

Following this theme, my documentation for 3D work will be split into quadrants representing each element and collective below. Granting the collectives an element each to represent grants for a succinct workflow that I can additionally replicate in my blog and final video edit as I can resemble the story of 'The Avatar' to the best of my ability.
